Welcome to ELK's Path

Christmas Morning 2020 - Roseville, CA

I created a photobook as a Christmas 2020 gift for Egypt. After asking a few sneaky questions, I realized Egypt wanted her story to be titled, Egypt's Path. A nod to her sister, Kellisa. The book started with the very first picture we ever took of Egypt in 2010 and chronicled the years right up to and including 2020. My goal with the book was to present Egypt in a way you could get to know this highly intelligent and diverse young lady without spoken words. Someday, hopefully far in the future, I won't be around to share the stories captured on the pages and Egypt will have them in one nice and organized place. She deeply appreciated the book and spent close to an hour going through each page in the middle of opening her presents. Egypt did not remember some of the pictures or stories behind them, so time was spent reminiscing.

While the book shared the pictures of Egypt's life up until 2020, I realized it didn't properly capture the stories. What to do? Never fear, Egypt had the answer, "Just create a website like Kellisa's Path."

Sounds simple and it will provide the platform to create lasting stories and memories. I tried to explain how Egypt is well represented on Kellisa's Path. I was secretly hoping to maintain just one website for both girls, but I can't blame her for wanting her own. I curse myself for creating Kellisa's Path instead of a more family encompassing name but can't go back and make changes since I created Kellisa's Path almost 10 years ago when Kellisa was just 12 years old.

Kellisa’s Path will continue in its current form and I have yet to decide how I will post shared stories. I might just share the same post twice or if I have the time, share from each of the girl’s respective perspectives. I’m sure it will evolve over time.

Egypt will be 12 in 6 weeks, so it seems like the right time to unveil, "ELK's Path." We thought about using Egypt's Path, but Egypt was worried that all Internet searches for her blog would point to articles about the country of Egypt. She has always been happy her initials spell ELK, so we decided to go with ELK's Path for her website. I will follow the outline I created in the photobook for the early posts to get this website up and full of Egypt’s content.
